Nearly a dozen locations of a popular nationwide retailer are set to close by the end of the month, including two of the company's stores in Georgia.

Walmart, the biggest retailer in the U.S., recently announced it is closing 11 stores across six states in October, joining the long list of beloved national chains shuttering doors around the country for reasons varying from bankruptcy to downsizing and poor sales. Two of the stores closing are located in the Peach State.

These are the two locations in Georgia expected to close by the end of the month:

  • 4725 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody
  • 3101 Roswell Road, Marietta

In addition to the stores in Georgia, a handful of Walmart locations in California, Ohio, Colorado, Wisconsin and Maryland are also expected to shutter their doors soon. Employees at the impacted stores will be offered the option to either work at a nearby location or accept a severance package.

Though these stores are closing, Walmart has plans to expand its brand even more by opening additional neighborhood markets, smaller locations that focus more on groceries and pharmacy needs, by the end of the year as well as remodel and modernize 650 stores.

Walmart isn't the only big name closing stores around the Peach State. In August, it was revealed that Red Lobster was closing additional locations around Georgia.
