As the saying goes, big things come in small packages.

While big cities have an abundance of attractions, entertainment venues and restaurants compared to their less-populated counterparts, small towns allow visitors a chance to better see the heart of what makes the town so special and often offer some truly unique experiences you won't find anywhere else.

Travel Curator compiled a list of 35 of the "best and coolest small towns" in the U.S., the small-but-mighty destinations worth visiting that are sure to make a trip just as memorable as a bigger city. Among the list of locales like stunning California hideaways, charming country towns in Texas and sunny cities in Florida is one spot in Georgia.

According to the site, Dahlonega is one of the best small towns in the entire country thanks to its unique history and attractions, like gold mining tours. Here's what the site had to say about this cool spot:

"A historic gold rush town located in the foothills of the northern Georgia mountains, with unique shopping, dining, and outdoor activities. Find Amicalola Falls, gold mining tours, and incredible vineyards with wine tasting experiences.
