Suspicious death on Tybee Island ruled a suicide after investigation

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to investigate a suspicious death on Tybee Island.

According to the Tybee Island Police Department, emergency medical personnel responded to the 900 block of 2nd Avenue at approximately 5:42 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, for a medical call. They located a deceased female when they arrived on scene.

The death was considered “suspicious” and the case has been turned over to the GBI. According to the police department, while assessing the victim officers discovered a gunshot wound. Officers where then called to secure the scene.

Tybee PD says out of an abundance of caution, the GBI was contacted and asked to assist with the death investigation.

During the course of that investigation, the victim was sent for autopsy, which determined the manner of death was suicide.
