SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -Due to Hurricane Dorian’s impact on portions of Coastal Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry, local schools/daycares and businesses have issued the following closures:

HOSPITALS

  • Beaufort Memorial Hospital (BMH) has received a waiver to shelter in place during the passage of Hurricane Dorian, allowing the hospital to keep its emergency room open and for critical personnel to stay in the hospital and prepare to care for remaining patients. Officials and staff have begun discharging or transferring patients to receiving facilities per Governor Henry McMaster’s mandatory medical evacuation order. Staff are notifying patients’ family members and officials expect patient transfers to be complete by Tuesday. In addition, the following service closures and/or modifications will begin today:
    • All elective surgical cases at the hospital and Beaufort Memorial Outpatient Surgery Center are canceled through the end of the week.
    • Radiation therapy, chemotherapy and infusion services are available through Tuesday, September 3.
    • All other outpatient services are closed through the end of the week.
  • St. Joseph’s/Candler will scale back operations at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Candler Hospital and across the health system as Hurricane Dorian approaches.
    • For Candler Hospital:
      • All patients who are stable enough to leave will be discharged ahead of the storm.
      • A small group of patients who are too sick to be transported will stay during the storm.
      • All babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit are being transported to hospitals inland.
      • A small crew of co-workers will remain at Candler Hospital to care for the remaining patients.
      • All scheduled surgery and other outpatient services will be cancelled through Thursday with tentative plans to reopen on Friday based on storm impact.
      • The Emergency Department will stay open but will begin ambulance diversion to St. Joseph’s Hospital at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. We recommend that anyone who needs emergency help go to St. Joseph’s Hospital at 11705 Mercy Boulevard.
      • Emergency Obstetric services will be available.
    • For St. Joseph’s Hospital (located on Abercorn Street and Mercy Boulevard) will remain fully open.
      • However, all patients who are stable enough to leave will be discharged ahead of the storm.
      • The Emergency Department will remain open.
      • All scheduled surgery and other outpatient services will be cancelled through Thursday with tentative plans to reopen on Friday based on storm impact.
      • The newly renovated St. Joseph’s Hospital is now one of the strongest buildings in Savannah capable of withstanding significant hurricane force winds.
    • Pooler Campus will reopen Friday.
    • St. Joseph’s/Candler Physician Network Primary Care and Specialist offices in Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, Beaufort and Jasper counties as well as Urgent Care practices will be closed Tuesday through Thursday with tentative plans to reopen on Friday depending on the severity of the storm.
    • Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion practices in Georgia and South Carolina will be closed for the rest of the week. However, they may reopen Friday based on storm impact.

SCHOOLS:

  • Appling Christian Academy will resume classes on Friday.
  • Appling County Schools will remain closed Thursday and re-open on Friday.
  • Ash Tree Learning Center Academy will be closed through Friday.
  • Beaufort County Schools will be closed through Friday.
  • Benedictine Military School will remain closed through the rest of the week.
  • Bethesda Academy will remain closed through Friday.
  • Bible Baptist Christian Academy in Statesboro will be closed Thursday.
  • Blessed Sacrament School, St. James School and St. Peter the Apostle School in Chatham County will remain closed through Friday, September 6
  • Bryan County Schools will be closed Tuesday-Friday for both staff and students.
  • Bulloch County Schools will be closed Thursday. The district will continue to monitor weather, but plans to resume school and activities for employees and students on Friday.
  • Butler Christian Academy will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Calvary Day School will be closed Tuesday-Friday.
  • Central Texas College @ Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield will cancel all classes the rest of the week.
  • College of Coastal Georgia (classes to end Tuesday, September 3rd).
  • East Georgia State College’s Statesboro location as well as classes held at GSU are canceled through Friday. Swainsboro and Augusta to remain as usual.
  • Economic Opportunity Authority For Savannah-Chatham County Area, Inc. (EOA) Head Start/Early Head Start Chatham will be closed to students on Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 6.
  • Effingham County Schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Evans County Schools will be closed Thursday.
  • Georgia Southern University - Armstrong, Statesboro, and Liberty campuses - will be closed through Friday.
  • Glynn County Schools plan to resume a regular school schedule on Friday.
  • Hancock Day School will be closed through Friday.
  • Hampton County School District 1 will resume on Friday, September 6th.
  • Hampton County School District 2 will be closed Wednesday until further notice.
  • Huntington Learning Center of Bluffton will be closed Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Irwin Christian Academy will be closed through Friday.
  • Jasper County Disabilities & Special Needs in Ridgeland is closed until further notice.
  • Jasper County School District schools and offices will close Tuesday until further notice.
  • John Paul II Catholic School closed until further notice.
  • Kicklighter Academy and Kicklighter Resource Center, Inc. will be closed through Friday, Sept. 6.
  • Liberty County Schools will be closed through Friday.
  • LifeSpring Christian Academy will not resume classes until Monday, Sept. 9
  • Little Raiders Learning Academy closed Tuesday.
  • Little Treasures Learning Center will remain closed until Friday, Sept. 5
  • Long County Schools to close for students, staff Tuesday through Thursday.
  • McIntosh County Public Schools closed Tuesday through Friday.
  • Memorial Day School will be closed Tuesday through Friday.
  • Mercer University School of Medicine’s Savannah campus will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Montessori Academy of Savannah will be closed through Friday.
  • Ogeechee Tech will be closed for all classes and operations through Thursday.
  • Pinewood Christian Academy will be closed Thursday.
  • Point University will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Polaris Tech Charter School closed until further notice.
  • Ramah Jr. Academy will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Risen Savior Christian Academy in Pooler closed through Thursday.
  • Saint Leo University’s Savannah Education Center will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Saint Vincent’s Academy in Savannah will be closed Tuesday-Friday.
  • Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools will close all schools and facilities through Friday.
  • Savannah Christian Preparatory School will be closed through Thursday.
  • Savannah College of Art and Design (effective August 31st). The start of fall quarter will be delayed until at least Wednesday, Sept. 11.
  • Savannah State University campus closed through Friday. Online classes will be held.
  • Savannah Technical College will be closed through Saturday.
  • Screven County Schools will be closed Thursday.
  • St. Francis Xavier Catholic School will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • St. John Academy will be closed through Friday, Sept. 6. Classes will resume Monday, Sept. 9.
  • St. Leo University-Savannah classes canceled through Thursday.
  • Step of Faith Christian Academy will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Sonshine Learning Center in Georgetown is closed through Friday.
  • South University Savannah will be closed through Friday.
  • Tattnall County Schools will resume Friday, September 6th.
  • Technical College of the Lowcountry will be closed until further notice (all campuses).
  • Thomas Heyward Academy will be closed through Friday.
  • Urban Christian Academy will be closed through Friday.
  • Wayne County Schools will be closed Tuesday-Thursday.
  • USC Salkehatchie, Walterboro and Allendale campuses, will remain closed through Thursday, Sept. 5.

DAYCARES/CARE CENTERS:

  • ABC Childcare Center will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Another Adventure Daycare and Adventure Learning Center will be closed all week.
  • Bible Baptist Daycare will be closed Monday-Wednesday.
  • Childrens Village will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Childcare Network - Johnny Mercer Blvd, #20, #21, #22, & #254 - closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Coastal Care Center in Richmond Hill called all week. Monday re-opening pending weather.
  • Crossing Jordan Learning Academy in Savannah will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • Greater Expectation Daycare & Pre-K in Liberty County will close Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Greenbriar Children’s Center Administrative, Emergency Shelter, Windy’s Preschool and W.W. Law Learning Center offices and programs will be closed effective Tuesday, Sept. 3 until further notice.
  • Hodge Memorial Daycare Center will be closed Monday-Friday.
  • In His Arms - Pooler will be closed through Thursday.
  • In His Arms - Wilmington Island will be closed through Thursday.
  • Kids World Learning Center in Statesboro will be closed Thursday.
  • Lady Bamford Child Care Center will be closed through Friday.
  • Little Miracles Learning Center in Bloomingdale closed through Thursday.
  • Little Treasures Learning Center in Hinesville will remain closed until Friday.
  • Memorial Childcare Center will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Mickee’s Academy Daycare Center will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Pookie Bear Day Care Center will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. A decision will be made regarding Friday.
  • Renee’s Kid’s World will be closed Monday-Wednesday.
  • Senior Citizens, Inc. will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Meals on Wheels delivery will resume on Monday.
  • St. Matthew’s Day Care Learning Center in Savannah will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Starting Point Daycare will be closed Monday-Wednesday.
  • Success for Children and Families will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Super Kids Child Care Center in Statesboro will be closed Wednesday.
  • Terry’s Childcare & Learning Center in Chatham County will close Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • The Children’s Center on Hilton Head Island will be closed until further notice.
  • Tot’s Learning Academy in Chatham County is closed until further notice.
  • Tremont Temple Preschool Learning Center in Savannah will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Victory Day Care Center, LLC. will be closed until further notice.
  • Weekday Ministry First Baptist Church of Rincon Child care center will be open Sept. 3 and closed Sept. 4, Sept. 5.
  • Wesley Community Centers of Savannah, Inc. will be closed through Friday.
  • Wright’s Child Care will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • YMCA of Coastal Georgia
    • Bryan County: Richmond Hill YMCA will be close at Noon and remain closed through Wednesday, September 4th. No Fun Club, childcare or programs.
    • Bulloch County: Statesboro YMCA will remain open until 6 pm on Monday and open Tuesday, September 3, 2019 until 6 pm and will be closed on Wednesday, September 4th.
    • Chatham County: All Chatham County YMCA facilities are closed through Wednesday, September 4th. (Habersham, Islands, Tybee, West Chatham). This includes Child Learning Centers, YMCA Before & After School Enrichment and all programs. The West Broad Street YMCA will be closed through Wednesday, September 4th. All programs are cancelled.
    • Effingham County: The Effingham YMCA will remain open until 6 pm on Monday and open Tuesday, September 3, 2019 until 6 pm and will be closed on Wednesday, September 4th.
    • Glynn County: The Golden Isles YMCA will be closed through Wednesday, September 4th. No Fun Club, YMCA Before & After School Enrichment or Childcare.
    • Liberty County: The Liberty County YMCA will be closed through Wednesday, September 4th. No Fun Club, YMCA Before & After School Enrichment or Childcare.
    • McIntosh County: The McIntosh YMCA will be closed through Wednesday, September 4th.

ROADS/BRIDGES

  • CAT will provide free transportation to residents without private transportation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Buses will go to the Savannah Civic Center. Buses will cease operating at 6 p.m. Tuesday and will remain suspended until further notice. CAT suspended the Belles Ferry services at 8 p.m. Monday. The free downtown shuttle, CAT’s paratransit service, and CAT Mobility will not operate Tuesday. The customer service line, 912.233.5767, will operate on a shortened schedule from 6 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The ticket/informational window at the JMR International Transit Center on West Oglethorpe will also operate on a shortened schedule Tuesday, from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m.
  • Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick will close starting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
  • Talmadge Bridge in Savannah will close starting at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
  • The Jekyll Island Causeway will close Tuesday at 8 p.m. It will be barricaded and no entry will be permitted until re-entry is activated. A curfew has also been issued by the Jekyll Island Authority, beginning Tuesday at 8 p.m. It will remain in effect until further notice. It is prohibited for any person to appear in public in the territory subject to the curfew, including streets, sidewalks, public buildings, beaches, roads, in vehicles or otherwise, and any other public place on Jekyll during the curfew.

BUSINESSES

  • Beaufort Jasper Water & Sewer Authority will be closed through Friday.
  • Be Pediatrics will be closed Tuesday-Thursday.
  • Bluffton Jasper Volunteers in Medicine clinics in Bluffton and Ridgeland will be closed until further notice.
  • Boland Eye Center will be closed Sept. 3rd-5th.
  • BMH Care Anywhere, which offers on-line appointments with board-certified providers, will remain in operation 24/7 throughout the storm and can be accessed by downloading the BMH Care Anywhere app or by visitingBMHCareAnywhere.org.
  • Chatham Oral Surgery - all locations closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Coastal Allergy & Asthma - all locations - closed Tuesday-Thursday.
  • Coastal Ear, Nose & Throat Savannah and Pooler locations closing Tuesday & Wednesday.
  • Coastal Pediatrics - both locations in Savannah - closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care, Inc. - all locations - will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Daniel Defense will temporarily suspend operations in its manufacturing facility in Black Creek, Ga. Daniel Defense will be closed starting Tuesday, September 3rd and will remain closed through Wednesday, September 4th.
  • Diamond Crystal Brands will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Environmental monitoring efforts at the Able Contracting fire site are suspended
  • Epps Medical Associates - all locations - will be closed Thursday, with a possible re-opening of Friday.
  • Express Care & Occupational Health – Beaufort – is open until 8 p.m. Monday, September 2, and then will be closed for the remainder of the week
  • Everyday Diabetes Center will be closed through Friday
  • First City Films will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Gastroenterology Consultants of Savannah will close Tuesday through Thursday.
  • GeoVista Credit Union closing Richmond Hill, Pooler, and Hunter locations Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Georgia Skin & Cancer Clinic - all offices - will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Golden Isles YMCA will be closed Monday.
  • Goodwill stores - Sallie Mood Outlet, Eisenhower, Wilmington Island, Richmond Hill, Pooler, Berwick, McAlpin, St. Mary’s, Brunswick and Hinesville - will be closed starting Monday, Sept. 2 until further notice.
  • Harrison Peeples Health Care Center – Varnville – will be open Tuesday, September 3, and then will be closed for the remainder of the week.
  • Health departments in all eight Coastal Health District counties (Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh) will be closed through Thursday.
  • Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue is closing locations on Shipyard Drive, Lighthouse Road, and William Hilton Parkway.
  • Housing Authority of Savannah, The View at Oglethorpe, SCB Kayton , River Pointe I and River Pointe II will remain closed Thursday and re-open on Friday.
  • J. C. Lewis Primary Healthcare Center - all sites - will re-open on Friday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • John Davis Florist in Savannah will be closed Monday-Wednesday.
  • Kerry Inc. in Savannah is closing at noon Monday until further notice. Employees can call 912-210-5370 for updates.

  • Orthopaedic Specialists (Lowcountry Medical Group location) will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, and then will be closed for the remainder of the week.
  • Pooler Municipal Court has been cancelled for Thursday, Sept. 5. Those already on the docket will receive a new subpoena via mail. Please contact the Court Clerks on Monday, Sept. 9 if you need to update your mailing address in order to ensure delivery of your new subpoena.
  • Precious Cargo and Transport will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Precision Machine and Precision Protective Coating will be closed through Thursday.
  • Publix in Pooler is closed until storm passes.
  • Ramon Ramos, MD. Pediatric Offices in Savannah and Pooler will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Regenerative Healthcare will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Savannah Animal Care will be OPEN 24/7 for pet emergencies during the storm.
  • Savannah Medical Group will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday (possibly Thursday).
  • Savannah Vascular Institute will be closed Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Schulze Eye and Surgery Center will be closed through Friday.
  • Smith Barid, LLC. closed through Friday.
  • SouthCoast Health System - all offices - will resume all inpatient and outpatient services on Friday.
  • Tanger Outlets in Pooler and Hilton Head closed until further notice.
  • Telfair Museums (Jepson Center, Telfair Academy, and the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters) will be closed Monday through at least Friday, Sept. 6.
  • Urgent Care 24/7 will keep the Historic Savannah, Pooler, and Midtown locations open during the storm.
  • WellCare of Georgia’s Savannah office (located at 1000 Business Center Drive) will be closed through Wednesday, 9/4
  • Wells Fargo branches in Savannah and surrounding areas will remain closed Thursday.
  • Wesley Community Centers of Savannah will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Wetherington Chiropractic will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • YMCA of Coastal Georgia (Chatham, Glynn, Effingham, Liberty, McIntosh) closed Thursday.

LIBRARIES

  • Live Oak Public Libraries closed Tuesday and Wednesday
